Accountant

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Serves as an accountant responsible for the day-to-day accounting operations. Provides management officials professional accounting advice and assistance related to travel, reimbursements and the impact of financial transactions on program operations. Major duties: Assist senior specialists and supervisors in conducting accounting functions. Interpret data base input/output listings and reconciles accounts. Responsible for the collection and processing of incoming funds from sponsors and/or partners. Complete on-site inspections of accounting procedures, document files and reports, as well as interviews with supervisors to determine compliance with instructions and regulations concerning areas applicable to financial management. Devise methods and procedures for providing adequate internal controls to secure and demonstrate accuracy of results where the variety and types of transactions vary greatly. Research legal and regulatory material to obtain factual information and/or interpretation for use by the supervisor or co-workers. Assure that computer output of expenses charged to serviced activities is submitted to the activities on a timely basis. Develop formal reports for submission to command. Resolve accounting system problems with programmers and system accountants.
